Dr. Shukh has more than 30-years experience in the magnetic storage and
semiconductor industries with an emphasis on design, process and material development. Prior to founding Spingate he was a founder and a director of the first Soviet university based research laboratory specializing in thin film magnetic and semiconductor devices (Minsk, Belarus). Since early 1990s he worked as a visiting scientist at the University of Regensburg (Germany) and as a principal engineer at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (South Korea) and at Seagate Technology (Minneapolis, USA).
Dr. Shukh is the sole or primary designer and inventor of numerous recording heads. The vast majority of Seagate's recording heads shipped since the year 2000 are based on his original designs and patents. He has 35 granted and many pending patents. Alex is a member of Seagate's Inventor Hall of Fame (since 2005) and a recipient of the prestigious Seagate award for Outstanding Technical Innovation (2000). More than half of his patents assigned to Seagate have already been implemented into the company’s products; several of his innovations have become standards in the magnetic storage industry. Currently each Seagate's hard disk drive based on perpendicular recording technology includes up to five of his patents. Net profit to Seagate from his implemented patents has already exceeded one billion dollars.
Alex holds a Ph.D. degree in Physics and Mathematics and M.S. degree with honors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Dr. Shukh was a co-founder of several start-ups in Belarus, served as a CEO of VIMAS, LLC (Minsk, Belarus) and as a VP of Engineering of Inkomag, Inc. (currently ASBIS Group).
