Alexander has more than 30-years experience in the magnetic storage and
semiconductor industries with an emphasis on design, process and material development. Prior to founding Spingate he was a founder and a director of the first Soviet university based research laboratory specializing in thin film magnetic and semiconductor devices (Minsk, Belarus). Since early 1990s he worked as a visiting scientist at the University of Regensburg (Germany) and as a principal engineer at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (South Korea) and at Seagate Technology (Minneapolis, USA).
Alexander is the sole or primary designer and inventor of Seagate’s recording heads since 1998. He holds 35 Soviet and US patents. More than half of his patents assigned to Seagate has already been implemented in the company’s heads and media, several of them became standards of the magnetic storage industry. Majority of Seagate’s recording heads shipped since the year 2000 are based on his original designs and patents. Currently each Seagate hard disk drive using a perpendicular recording technology includes up to 5 of his patents. A net profit of Seagate from his implemented patents has already exceeded hundreds of millions of dollars.
Alexander holds an M.S. degree with honors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Minsk Radioengineering Institute (currently the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics) and Ph.D. degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Institute of Electronics of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences. He was a co-founder of several start-ups in Belarus, served as a CEO of VIMAS, LLC (Minsk, Belarus) and as a VP of R&D of Inkomag, Inc. (currently ASBIS Group).
